View of Moraira Costa BlancaAt the end of the 18th century, Teulada was a farming village, and transported its crops by sea from the natural ports. As time went by, the locals started to settle near their place of work, and devoted their life to fishing. Eventually, the small storage huts used by the fishermen to store the tackle, grew into real fishing houses and laid the foundations for what we know today as Moraira. Today, in Moraira, the system is still as it was hundreds of years ago, the fishermen go to sea in the early hours to catch the produce, which is sold later that day, by auction, at the local fish market. Of course, the market has grown over the years, into what is now one of the most important fish markets on the Costa Blanca. the locals of Moraira, renowned for their friendliness, as any travel guide will tell you, have adapted their lifestyle to accommodate the influx of holiday makers. With over 8 km of coastline to explore with Blue Flag fine sandy beaches, mysterious rocky coves and crystal clear waters.

Moraira/Teulada SculptureThe urban area of the old picturesque town of Teulada, approximately 6 km inland, is constructed around the Church-Fortress of Santa Catarena. Work began on the building, under constant attacks from the Berber Pirates, in 1562 and took 35-40 years to complete. Teulada is famous for its Moscatel grapes which grow on its sunny hillsides, and are commonly sold in markets and stalls by the roadside. The local grapes are used to make the delicious and refreshingly sweet Mistela wine, which can be found in countless local bodegas.

Moraira has a number of fine International restaurants. "La Sort" located in the port area and "Dauphin" in Portet are host to a Gourmet Festival in the autumn with many international chefs being invited.
